EXP3 Final Submission - Image captures

The Building is located between the Gym and the Square House, with the floating bridge design still allowing the green space below to be used. The site's sun path was taken into consideration when constructing the curved shape, to allow as much light as possible to still reach the lawn.

As north is to the bottom right corner of the following photo, the building was elevated and curved towards the south to keep the Gym Lawn bright and usable.

A wing containing private spaces is to the left, and the larger public wing is to the right:

The conceptual theory focused on natural forms and organic curves interacting with the landscape, and this is definitely expressed through the curving foot bridge linking the Square House, new building, the street level, and also spanning Anzac Parade to provide access to the NIDA building and bus stops on the other side.

The textures emulate organic forms, and the stark black and white contrasts against the warm toned surrounding materials.

On the northern side of the public wing on the exterior of the lecture theatre, the large triangular windows are each covered by 3 tessellating shades, that pivot open and closed depending on the sun angle and time of day, to ensure the comfort of occupants and the functioning of the projector screens in the correct lighting conditions.

The glass wall in studio 3 rotates upwards from its angled position to become horizontal, therefore providing shelter and extending the studio space to encompass both the interior room and the outside balcony continuously.

Electroliquid Aggregation of two themes: Architecture is the logical outgrowth of the environment in which the environment in mind is to be located. Moshe Safdie's works are known for their dramatic curves, arrays of geometric patterns, use of windows, and key placement of open and green spaces.

A thin platform allows arriving commuters to depart quickly to the eastern side of Anzac Parade, whereas the larger area to the west allows commuters to wait for their departing tram in comfort.

Glass panels have been used to create rain cover at each end of the light rail stop, to reflect Mosche Safdie's use of windows and placement of green spaces surrounding these windows.

Textures have been used as tiles, with leafy patterns chosen to reflect the overall theme of sustainability.

Dramatic curves provide shelter and a sense of enclosure.

Exp2 W3 - Textures - Light to Dark

Exp2 W2 - Parralel Projections & Electroliquid Aggregation

Axomonetric 4 & 6:
Architecture is the logical outgrowth of the environment in which the environment in mind is to be located. Moshe Safdie's works are known for their dramatic curves, arrays of geometric patterns, use of windows, and key placement of open and green spaces.

Axonometric 1 & 5:
The design of a building should embody a sense of its purpose. Architecture is an abstract appeal to human capacity to judge time and space.

Axonometric 2 & 3:
The home can become a total work of art and craft in spite of an industrial system that alienates areas of human activity from creative, individual involvement. Architecture must cope with rapid urban growth, congestion, and resisting the dehumanization of the environment.

Week 3 - Staircases

Design Sketch:
Above: Swift
Below: Envelop

Staircase 1: Swift

material selection: A reinforced concrete wall curves up from the basement floor to serve as a structural support for the building. The treads of these steps extend into the wall on the right side, and the rest of the weight is supported by pointed steel frames filled with glass. The small glass areas are small enough to be made from reclaimed pieces from old windows. The use of small and large triangles in a pointed shape reflects the notion of being swift or agile.

Staircase 2: Envelop

material selection: steel hoops hung from the ceiling support each tread. These are made from a wooden shell, with steel reinforcement inside if needed. The handrail is attached to each ring, made from steel covered in sculpted wood or copper, which reflects the brown tones in the wood.
